Texsylvania
Smokehouse is a husband and wife BBQ competition team originally
from Texas now happily settled in Pennsylvania. Our motto
is “Texas History with Pennsylvania Pride.”
Our mission is to bring a little bit of Texas community
to our Pennsylvania neighbors through BBQ and more precisely,
BBQ Benefit events and BBQ Competitions.

The Marines are Coming! The Marines are Coming!

Reading, PA -- April 2007: another Operation BBQ for Our Troops event for returning soldiers.
The Marines are coming and we don't mean the 1934 film of the same title! Pennsylvania's own
India Battery 3/14 has done an outstanding job serving our country and is due home soon. Unit movements are classified for protection of the Marines,
so specific dates can not be discussed. However, if you are willing to help Texsylvania Smokehouse serve these exceptional young women and men, email us.
We can always use extra hands, meat, supplies, and cheering supporters to show our troops their sacrifices are most appreciated and cherished.
These fine Marines and all our Armed Forces deserve our support and to know the great country they protect welcomes them home.
Hopefully we can at least match the haute cuisine these warriors enjoyed at Camp Wilson 29 Palms!
BBQ for Wounded Troops at WRAMC

Washington, DC -- October 29th, 2006: Texsylvania Smokehouse honored to serve our wounded troops.
Walter Reed Army Medical Center welcomed Ron and Patti of Ribn' It along with Fat Tommy's BBQ, Main Street BBQ, PHU Q'ers, Dixie Bones BBQ, "Maryland for our Military",
Texsylvania Smokehouse and assorted friends and family for a BBQ to celebrate and support our troops. Over 250 meals were prepared and delivered including brisket, pulled pork, chicken, dogs, and burgers along
with all the sides. Special thanks go to Ron and Patti for putting together the event. Additional pictures are in the PHOTOS section. We look forward to cooking with all the good
folks that participated when the 2007 season warms up.

BRISTOL, PA -- May 20th, 2006: Texsylvania Smokehouse wins the Iron Chef competition at the BBQ on the River competition!
Those Iron Chef contests on the Food Network sure do look easy when you're watching them, however, after competing in our first one this weekend it's anything but.
We were handed our common ingredients at 6:30pm with an 8:30pm turn-in deadline. What would you do with flank steak, red potatoes, and yellow squash? We grilled up the steak, sliced bias
against the grain laid across a bed of smashed potatoes with bacon circled with a kabob of yellow squash, green zucchini, red/yellow/orange bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, and grilled red potatoes.
Dressed the plate with a design of green wasabi and red hot sauces and submitted the winning entry with 2 minutes to spare. Unfortunately, we were too excited and hungry when we ate the extra plate before taking a photo.
Perhaps we'll make the dish next weekend and get photos? We also took 2nd out of 34 teams in Brisket thus maintaining our Texas roots!

BBQ
for returning troops and Katrina volunteers
HOUSTON, TX -- October
15th, 2005: The Operation BBQ For Our Troops event at
Ellington Field in Houston, TX was a smashing SUCCESS!
A true group effort served close to 2,000 people and made it quite clear
how proud we are of our troops and their families. Congrats
go out to the organizer, Scott (of SkippyP's
BBQ), along with David (of BBQ
Pits by Klose), Randell, Glen, and the cadets from
Texas A&M
Galveston. We came together as a team and served some
of the best BBQ in South Texas. Click the link above for
information on how to show your support and see some of
the pics from the cook on Scott's website.

WILMINGTON, DE -- October
1, 2005: Delaware
Valley TAMU Club along with Texsylvania Smokehouse award
the Club's annual Scholarship. An annual tradition
in the Delaware Valley is the Fall Scholarship BBQ to
raise funds for college scholarships to Texas A&M. Our
first recipient, Matt White, is a sophmore at Texas
A&M-Galveston and has maintained a 4.0 through his
first year. Matt's parents looked quite shocked in the
photo above and they should be! We found a way to fly
Matt up without his parents knowing until the moment the
scholarship was announced. A touching moment we won't
soon forget.

DOWNINGTOWN, PA -- August
27, 2005: Texsylvania Smokehouse won the 2005 Pennsylvania
Cup as PA State Champion. TSBBQ took 8th place out
of 55 teams from 11 states competed at the 6th annual
New
Holland Summerfest Many championship teams came to
'cook it out' for bragging rights in New Holland, PA.
TSBBQ had many new, enthusiastic team members that contributed
to a top finish against some of the best teams on the
circuit. Our scores at New Holland combined with our scores
from earlier this year at the Bristol,
PA competition set TSBBQ as the top PA team for 2005.
A true team effort - thanks out to Phil, Dave, Patrick,
Marion, Coach, Amanda, and the support crew from TAMU.

DOWNINGTOWN, PA -- July
14, 2005: Thanks to all that attended and/or supported
the recent SOLDIER
RIDE benefit this past Wednesday, July 13th at
the
Milltown Grill at Downingtown Country Club. We were
able to feed the crew from Soldier Ride including 20+
additional veterans and team members that attended along
with 100 guests throughout the day. Milltown Grill donated
all their time and resources so we were able to make a
great monetary donation once the dust settled.
Special thanks are due: Milltown
Grill at the Downingtown Golf Club, Blue Cafe, Exton
Village Florist, Oblique
Photo, Steve's
Sewing and Vac, Sheraton-Great
Valley, and, of course, Yuengling
Brewery.
Although the fundraiser
benefit as well as the cross-country bicycle ride is over,
the need for funds and support remains.
Soldier Ride is a coast-to-coast bike ride event to
raise funds and awareness to support our wounded veterans
through the Wounded Warrior Project. We saw a story on
Soldier Ride 2004 (which raised $2 million) as
Chris Carney cycled 4,200+ miles from NY to CA. The
goal for 2005 is $5 million and the route has changed
from CA to NY. Chris has two teammates making the entire
ride with him this year - Staff Sergeant
Ryan Kelly, U.S. Army (ret.) and Staff Sergeant
Heath Calhoun, U.S. Army (ret.) – both of whom
were injured in service to their country and are pictured
with Chris to the right.
JOIN
US AND SHOW OUR VETERANS THAT WE CARE!

DOWNINGTOWN, PA -- Jack
Bennett Skelton joined the Texsylvania roster this morning
after 8 1/2 months of negotiations. Luckily we had the
first pick in this year's BBQ draft as he is the most
highly prized talent to come out since his older sister
Katelyn (also a number 1 first round BBQ draft choice
by TSBBQ) joined the league in 2003. His competitive attitude
and penchant for BBQ Ribs (just ask his mother how he
kicked when she ate them) will be a welcome addition to
the award-winning TSBBQ line-up!
